Windows Imaging Compornet (WIC) is a library mainly for decoding and encoding images. All the popular formats are supported by the library such as Jpeg.

Miruno PC Photoframe utilizes the WIC for decoding images like Windows photo gallery.

- GIF (Graphics Interchange Format 89a)
- Animation GIF (Graphics Interchange Format 89a)

- PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

But the meta information of GIF animations can not be read on Windows XP, Miruno PC Photoframe uses original code to read them.
WIC can manage color profiles
WIC can load color profiles with images. Color profiles are information of characteristic of pixel values. You can use color profiles to show almost same colored images with various devices. For example you can get almost same colored images to your display from my display to utilize that.
WIC can be extended to unknown formats
WIC can be extended to decode originally unsupported formats. For example you can use "Canon RAW Codec" to decode raw format images taken by digital cameras of Canon.
