There are several conditions to recognize manuscripts' section automatically.
Input images must have same width and same height. Same scanning condition is suitable to robust recognition (same exposure, same gamma correction, etc.). Manuscripts' shapes must be almost rectangle. If you use a no-manuscript image, manuscripts must be thin enough to get same background bacause thickness cause shadows. If you don't use a no-manuscript image, background of manuscripts must be flat to distinguish from manuscript sections.
A no-manuscript image is a image without manuscript (see the figure below). Using this to increase precision of recognition especially when background is not flat.
Manuscript section and background section must be distinguishable clearly. If you use white manuscript and white ceiling of a scanner as background, the recognition may be fail. If you substite white ceiling of the scanner by black paper or etc, you may get goot results.
